L.I.R.R.-Woman On the Tracks
Long Island, N.Y.-A woman drove through the barrier fence, onto the Long Island Railroad tracks this morning. As I walked out of the Pharmacy, adjacent to the Kings Park Station, I caught, a vision, the fence going down, as she had just driven through. How she managed to get through there, so easily, is quite beyond me. A simple chain link fence with a type of plastic threaded through, the car fit right on through, jumping the curb, going under the fence and became stuck, nose first, on the tracks. Another woman and I came running, I held the fence as she climbed through. I had 15 minutes, until my Nephew was to get off the bus at my home, thus, I didn't crawl through but got the reports and assessment, on the other side. I could see the woman, an older lady but not much older than myself, walking up the tracks. I began to yell, for her to get off the tracks. She wasn't listening to me at first and the other woman and I both yelled, forcefully, "Get the hell off the tracks, NOW!" We called the Police and had them call MTA, to get someone down there, pronto, before this womans car was annihilated and someone was hurt. The vehicle, a late model, maroon car, was on the tracks enough, if the train were to come, it would have hit it and God only knows what else.
I checked on the woman and she claimed to be fine, however, I do think she was in shock. My assessment would be that she had no physical injuries. She was shaking but actually seemed calm, under the circumstance.
I went back to my employers and had them call the Police, as well, just to make sure, they knew the urgency and that this was for real.
This is surely, something to be grateful for. No one was hurt, no one was killed. I do imagine there were, as always, a few people, rather perturbed, by having to wait on their train. Oh well, huh?

holy shit.
It's funny, if you were waiting for the train you would be all pissed off at the delay... but just to think that this lady could ahve been seriously hurt or killed... makes you wonder everytime you miss a bus or train or airplane, is it from delays like this??

Xmichra, you're right, I'm sure people were cussing and carrying on about the delays, ya know? I had to leave but things were in motion, to stop the trains and so on. I then called Newsday, the Publication I'd mentioned to you, in our email and spoke to their reporters. They got an exclusive on it, of course, so it'll be in the paper tomorrow, I imagine? Thank God, she was ok. Just a hair more and she would've gone over the edge and I'm real thankful, a train was coming. Could've been a real bad scene, ya know?
Wow! She is very lucky she didn't get knocked out at the wheel or hurt and be rendered unable to get out of the car sitting on the damn track! I bet she was in shock. We have RR track that goes through this teeny town, I have heard the crushing and squealing when that train has hit a car before. One time it was 4 teenagers trying to outrun the train. Only one lived. The other was an elderly black man and his grandson - they just didn't see the train. The train pushed their pickup truck all the way to the tressel before it stopped. Bad sound. Both killed.
So... here you are, minding your own business, and as faith would have it - you have witnessed the best of the crazies in the world again -this time a woman driving through a fence and onto the train track and casually walking down the track! Ya magnet, you - good magnet. Glad you were there!
Brotherray, it could have gone horribly wrong but calling the police right away and them calling MTA probably made the difference. God was on her side as a train comes through there every few minutes. Commuters go at least every half hour and she'd real fortunate, she's alive to tell the story.
